From the lap
Bee Creek Bespoke is my practice out of Austin, Texas. I am passionate about rough sourcing, ultra-precise gem-cutting, and gem design.
I run the Westlake Goldsmiths collective, and The Rough Life. When a stone wants to become a ring, we can build it together under one roof. When it wants to live loose until it finds its person, even better.
Rough finds me in a few ways. Trusted parcels, summers digging at sapphire mines in Montana, the occasional stone a friend gifts to me at Tucson. Every gem has a story to tell, please ask.
Philosophy
Much like a new romance, uncut gems hold the perfect promise of what could be.
We spend so much time imagining the future that when it arrives, if it doesn’t meet our expectations, the joy of the arrival can be lost, and with it, the beauty of the journey.
Faceting, for me, is a practice of detachment. Each finished gem is an offering to the present, and a celebration of what is, exactly as it arrives.
I enjoy cutting large, high-quality rough. These are the three I lean into the most.
01
Unheated, naturally teal and blue, with that Big Sky silk. I dig some myself in the summer at Rock Creek and Eldorado Bar.
02
Lotus and Malaya from Tanzania. Pink under blue light, peach under incandescent. Rarely the same stone twice.
03
Trillium, fifteen-fold symmetry stars, beehive briolettes. If you want a stone no one else has, that’s where I live.
